An international competition
In July 2019 Mount Valinis was one of the protagonists of the 22nd Hang-gliding World Championship, a competition that saw the participation of over 120 pilots from more than 40 nations. The take-off area of Mount Valinis in Meduno proved ideal for taking advantage of the updrafts, offering the pilots the chance to soar above a breath-taking landscape.
This international event extended its competition area not only over Friuli Venezia Giulia, but also to Austria and Slovenia, marking a record for hang-gliding, which crossed national borders for the first time. Mount Valinis thus hosted one of the most exciting competitions, with pilots competing on aerial courses of high difficulty and great natural beauty.
In addition to the sporting aspect, the Championship represented a unique opportunity to enhance our territory. The presence of international athletes and spectators contributed to making the landscape, cultural and gastronomic excellences of Friuli Venezia Giulia known. Mount Valinis was thus confirmed not only as a superlative place for free flight, but also as a symbol of the hospitality and beauty of our territory.
