Hiking and Mountain Bike
The Polisportiva ValMeduna compiled this collection that includes the most fascinating trails in the area and is intended for walkers, hikers, mountain bikers and sportspeople of all kinds. Each path offers a unique exploration of the area, from breath-taking views to hidden historical testimonies.
It represents a milestone in the journey begun a few years ago together with the Municipality of Meduno, the ValMeduna Alpine Group and other local associations. This project involved the recovery and signalling of paths, with the aim of enhancing an area rich in history and nature, which deserves to the discovered and visited. Amongst the proposed routes, you will find paths suitable for families, more challenging itineraries for expert hikers and tracks for mountain bikers.
The extraordinary characteristic of this small Alpine valley is the presence of numerous historical vestiges, which testify to the richness of the valley’s history and happenings over the centuries. Each walk becomes a journey through time, amid ancient remains and fascinating stories.
Happy hiking!

WELCOME
This area has been known since ancient times for the quality of the stone that was extracted from the quarry known as Cava di Ponte Racli i. e. the Racli Bridge Quarry. It is important for having supplied Medunese craftsmen and stone masons during the Renaissance period, including the sculptor G. A. Pilacorte, who chose to use this stone for the realisation of their works. Today, the area has been recovered thanks to a joint effort by the Municipality of Meduno, the Polisportiva ValMeduna and the Alpine Group Valmeduna, the CAI (Italian Alpine Club), the ANA Section of Pordenone, the essential support of the Military Alpine Rescue Team of the 3rd Mountain Artillery Regiment and the instructors of the Marcello Foscato Alpine School of the CAI of Spilimbergo.
THE VIA FERRATA
The Via Ferrata begins on the left side of the cliff at 330 m asl and runs diagonally. The wall is a natural limestone cliff, rich in significant fossil fauna from the Cretaceous period, described and illustrated in 1896 by the German geologist Karl Futterer (1866-1906). The Via Ferrata consists of 7 sections of 25 metres each and reaches the forest above. From here, the path leads to the medieval hamlet of Barbeadis (550 m asl), where it is possible to continue down a mule track to Redona and the lake nearby.

The Meduna river
To beat the sweltering heat of summer days, Meduno offers two ‘river beaches’, much appreciated by residents and non-residents alike, resulting from the same-named Meduna stream, which originates from the union of the Canal Grande and the Canal Piccolo in the locality of Selis, in the stunning setting of the Friulian Dolomites. It passes through Tramonti, Navarons, Meduno and descends until it reaches the vicinity of Meduna di Livenza, where it joins the Livenza river.
In the villages of Navarons and Paludana, there are two areas where there is little current and the waters of the river unfold into widenings where you can stop and enjoy the coolness and tranquillity.
