Borgo Del Bianco
Birthplace of Luigi Del Bianco, a sculptor who became world famous for his role as site manager during the creation of the faces of the four American presidents (Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln) sculpted on Mount Rushmore. In the hamlet, it is still possible to see the sculptor’s former home and the memorial stone dedicated to him. At the highest point of the hamlet is the “Belvedere degli Alpini” (Viewpoint of the Mountain Soldiers): inaugurated on 24 May 2008, it is the result of the work and commitment of the Penne Nere (Black Feathers and sympathisers of the ValMeduna Alpini Group. It was built in 2007 and 2008 on the site of some houses (the Tallin house) demolished following the 1976 earthquake. The intention was to create a furnished square in the most scenic spot in Del Bianco. With this work, the “Alpini” (mountain soldiers) wanted to make their contribution to the enhancement of one of the most beautiful and characteristic hamlets of the Meduna Valley. The locality can be reached either by car or via the “Luigi Del Bianco” path, named in his honour.
