Itinerary
From the little church of Sottomonte, take the CAI path 819 to an altitude of 530 m asl. At the fork, follow the path to the right, which leads to Casera Bortolussi (688 m) with a long and constant climb, offering a panoramic view over the plain, Val Meduna and the Friulian Dolomites. Leaving Casera Bortolussi on the right, continue initially inside the woods for 150 m, then proceed on a steep grassy slope that leads to a small fork (830 m). From here, take the path that descends to the left and passes under the rocky drops of the summit of Mount Cevolèit to soon reach the Casera “Stali di Bernociu” (798 m). Descend for another 50 m and return to CAI path 819, which you now follow downhill until you reach the previous fork at an altitude of 530 m, past this fork take the first path to the left, one of the oldest in the area: you can see the original cobblestones probably dating back to 1500s, especially in the lower part. At the end you come to the village of Sottomonte at 290 m and once you reach the tarmac road, follow it westwards and return to the starting point, encountering the Shepherds’ Fountain and typical farmhouses.
